The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is considered moderate to challenging. It doesn't require technical climbing skills, but it involves long trekking hours, thin air above 4,000m, and high elevation at 5,364 meters. With proper acclimatization and fitness, most trekkers can complete it successfully.
As of 2025, a guide is recommended but not legally required for the Everest region. However, due to altitude risks, route confusion, and language barriers, most trekkers choose to go with a professional guide for safety and better experience.
You’ll need: Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit (can be obtained in Lukla) Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit No TIMS card is required for EBC as of now. Nepal Boundary Trekking arranges all permits when you book your trip.
The best seasons are: Spring (March to May): Clear skies, warmer temperatures, and rhododendron blossoms Autumn (late Sept to Nov): Best weather and mountain views Avoid monsoon (June to August) and winter (Dec to Feb) due to weather issues and snow.
he classic EBC trek takes 12 to 14 days, depending on your itinerary and acclimatization days. Faster itineraries can be risky, while longer ones allow for better adjustment to altitude.
